Our Hope

The New City Free Store is a volunteer ministry clothes whose primary focus is to meet the physical needs of our church community - providing food, toiletries and household items. Where God gives in abundance, we will gladly share with the greater St. Louis community.

We do this in attempt to live out Jesus' command to love one another as we love ourselves.

The Free Store is open...

Sundays: "Open for business" after the worship service (usually from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.).

Also open for volunteer activities on:

Thursdays: the 2nd and 4th of each month from 9 to 11 a.m.

Saturdays: the normal "Workdays", usually the 2nd Saturday of each month (September - May, only)

If you are in need of items...

To use the Free Store, an individual or family must first meet with their house church leader, ministry team leader, or a deacon to determine the nature of the need. Once the need is verified, a voucher will be issued that will give that individual or family head of household permission to use the Free Store for either 1 week or 6 months, depending on the level of need and the individual/family’s relationship with the church community.

How Can You Help

VOLUNTEER...

We always need a few more hands to keep the Free Store running smoothly. Our Thursday volunteers food (see hours above) help tremendously by putting away new donations that come in and keeping the Free Store clean and organized so that it is ready for Sundays.

Sunday volunteers are in high demand. We need people who are willing to assist families as they gather what they need inside the Free Store. Sundays are a flurry of activity—you’ll see bags of rice and rolls of toilet paper practically flying into the hands of grateful recipients! It is a busy (but rewarding) time for all involved.

We also have volunteers taking care of things like checking phone messages and returning calls, picking up bread from the Kirk Food Pantry, etc.

DONATE ITEMS...

In the past, the Free Store has taken just about anything that fit under the “non-perishable” and “useful” categories. However, we have found that as our ministry grows, we must significantly limit the items we can accept so that we can serve our families in the best way possible. Regardless, it is vital that items that are donated are in good repair and affirm the dignity of those who are receiving them.

IMPORTANT:

Please do not leave donations outside the Free Store. Donation bins are located in the foyer outside the gym and in the rear of the auditorium. If you need to make other arrangements, please call us ahead of time and wait for your call to be returned. Thank you!

The following list details acceptable donations:

Note: Our policy on furniture has changed. We are no longer accepting furniture donations at the Free Store. However, we are still facilitating direct donations of furniture and large appliances to those who need them. If you have such items to donate, please call us at (314) 726-2302 ext. 43.

DONATE FUNDS...

Another way you can contribute is to help fund our part-time coordinator’s salary. For more information, contact Gary Leibovich at (314) 726-2302 ext.35.

The Free Store would not be in operation without your donations, and we are very grateful for your generosity.
